LITERACY: Letter Sounds

Before a child learns to read, it is important to master letter sounds. Adriel was interested in letters so I started him at around 18 months. We started with this DIY sandpaper peek-a-boo board with pictures inside, coupled with little knick knacks that matched the letter sound.

I upcycled the covers of our wet wipes for it. I printed corresponding images inside it. Adriel loved it! Prying open the lids also helped him work on his fine motor skills.

I then progressed to sandpaper lowercase letters on canvas boards which I diy-ed.

He could recite his letter sounds rather well at 2.5 years old! He definitely impressed his popo!
We used the Alphabet Curriculum from Tara West though we didn't complete it.. Adriel mastered it before I could finish teaching him!

We still have the charts up on our wall for frequent revision.

Have fun!
