DRAMATIC PLAY: Adriel's Marketplace

Adriel's marketplace was the first dramatic/thematic play corner I made for him. I wanted to get a commercial one but it was awfully expensive and out of my budget. So I decided to create one instead.

We had lots of play food so I wanted to make the first play corner a marketplace.

The base was a 4 tier shoe rack. The top pillars and support were materials from Daiso.

Before being furnished..
Racks, whiteboard and stand, crates, trays and many of the knick knacks were from Daiso!

Side shelf made of 4 boxes from Daiso. Secured with bolts, nuts and washers. This was relatively tricky cos the wood was filmsy but it still worked. It served us well for a few play corners.

The completed rack

After constructing the shoe rack, I flipped the top plank over and nailed 4 x 45cm dowels from Daiso with 6cm nails. I then nailed 2 x 80cm gardening rods/picks to form the main frame. A drill would really help. Love ours!

Some knick knacks from Daiso too

Nailed the 2 racks at the side and back using nails and hung them up. They're removable.

Realising that the frame isn't as strong/stable as I wish it would be, I added 2 pieces of wooden plank sawed off a longer plank from Daiso. I hammered them in..

I got the tent from Spotlight. 0.5m did the trick. I secured the sides with simple folds before stitching it.

Adriel loves it!

Check out this video of his response when he woke up to it (:

Do try creating one too! It'll be lots of fun!
