CRAFT: Dough play with Chinese strokes

Dough play is great for kids. It helps develop fine motor skills. Here is an article that explains some of the benefits!

We had new tubs of playdough from The Tiny Trove which just arrived so we decided to recap Chinese characters with acrylic strokes from Playlexue. We created the Chinese number characters using the strokes and traced them. We used our DIY sandpaper cards that I made as reference.

We also stamped some English words using the DIY cubes I made.

Play with tons of playdough!

In case you are keen, here is a recipe for homemade playdough I've made before!
HOMEMADE PLAYDOUGH

3/4 cup water (measuring cup)
128g flour
32g salt
3 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp unflavoured oil
1 tsp fruit/veggie powder OR food colouring

1) In a non stick pan, warm up water, lemon juice and oil till bubbles appear at the sides of the pan. You just want it to be warm enough. (Add food colouring here if you are using it)
2) In a bowl, mix flour, salt and fruit/veggie powder. Sift mixture if you'd like to have a smoother play dough..
3) Into the pan, add dry ingredients. Stir and mix till dough forms. Cook for about 30 seconds to a minute till dough does not stick to the side of the pan.
4) Transfer dough to tray with wax sheet to cool for 10 to 15 minutes. Knead dough once it is cool enough to get a smoother combined consistency.
5) Allow dough to cool completely before storing in an air tight container.
6) For best results, let dough rest for 3 to 4 hours before playing..
